This 2 day course emphasizes key considerations applicable to the physical and occupational therapist in effectively managing patients with chronic cardiopulmonary diseases along the spectrum of care from acute hospitalization to rehabilitation, home health and outpatient care. Disease processes for patients with heart failure, chronic obstructive and restrictive lung diseases will be presented with specific reference to its etiology, pathology, and current medical management. In addition, the course accentuates current evidence on the interacting concepts of stability, decompensation and readmissions in patients with chronic diseases. Examination and evaluation strategies, organized clinical decision making and evidenced-based treatment techniques will be emphasized to provide clinicians with a contemporary best practice approach for managing patients with chronic cardiopulmonary diseases.
The regulating agency in Kentucky has indicated that they will accept continuing education courses approved by another state's APTA chapter. This course is approved by the Texas Physical Therapy Association (63237TX for 13 CCUs) and (63217TX for 3 CCUs - optional homestudy component).
