Course Description

This session emphasizes key considerations applicable to the therapist in effectively managing patients with permanent pacemakers and defibrillators. The course aims to educate the clinician on the basics of pacemakers and defibrillators. Each device will be presented with specific reference to its indications for use, the respective functions, as well as implications for the practicing therapist.

  • Identify essential components of a normal EKG
  • Understand the basics of pacemaker function.
  • Discuss the indications for use of a cardiac pacemaker and implantable cardioverter- defibrillators (AICD).
  • Review clinical implications when managing patients with pacemakers and defibrillators
